A Rocket Money alternative that never asks for your bank login

Recura is a free subscription tracker that runs in your browser. You list what you pay for and it shows your monthly and yearly totals, the next renewal date for each service, and reminders in the days before you're charged. There's no account, no bank connection, and it works in any country.

In short: Rocket Money finds your subscriptions automatically by linking your bank, and it can negotiate bills and cancel services for you — but only if you live in the US and bank with a US bank. Recura does less: you add subscriptions yourself, and in exchange it's free, private, and works anywhere, in THB, USD, EUR, or JPY.

Why people look for a Rocket Money alternative

  • It only works in the United States. Rocket Money's help center says the app is “only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks.” If you live in Thailand, Europe, or anywhere else, it isn't an option.
  • It needs access to your bank accounts. Subscriptions are detected by connecting your accounts through Plaid. That's what makes it automatic — and it's also a step many people aren't comfortable taking for a list of streaming services.
  • The useful extras are paid. Premium is pay-what-you-want at about $7–$14 a month, and Premium+ is $15 a month. Bill negotiation takes 35–60% of the first year's savings unless you're on Premium+.
  • You may only want the subscription list. Rocket Money is a full budgeting app — budgets, net worth, credit score. If all you want is “what am I paying for, and when does it renew?”, that's a lot of app to adopt.

How they compare in practice

Getting your subscriptions in

This is the real trade-off. Rocket Money reads your bank transactions and builds the list for you, which is hard to beat if you've lost track of what you're paying. Recura can't see your bank, so you add each subscription — name, price, currency, billing cycle, and renewal day. To speed that up, AI Invoice reads a pasted receipt or billing email and fills in the fields for you to check. That uses an AI provider you connect with your own API key; without one, you type the details yourself.

Privacy

Recura never touches your bank credentials or transactions. Your subscription list is stored in your browser's localStorage and never sent to a Recura server, because there isn't one to send it to. The site does collect anonymous usage stats, and on your first visit an IP lookup picks your language and currency. If you use the AI features, your list goes straight from your browser to the provider you chose. The privacy policy lists every service involved.

Cost

Recura is free, with no paid tier to upgrade to. Rocket Money's free tier covers subscription tracking, but budgets beyond three, cancellation help, and desktop access are paid, and bill negotiation takes a share of what it saves you. If Rocket Money negotiates a bill down or cancels something you'd forgotten, it can easily pay for itself. If you only need the list, you're paying for features you won't use.

Where you live and what you pay in

Recura is built for people paying in more than one currency — Netflix in baht, ChatGPT or Claude in dollars. It converts everything to one total at live exchange rates, in Thai or English. Rocket Money isn't available outside the US at all.

  • You want something free with no account to create
  • You only need your subscriptions, renewal dates, and totals

Moving from Rocket Money to Recura

There's no direct import, but the move is short:

  1. Open your list of recurring charges in Rocket Money and keep it next to you.
  2. Open Recura and add each one — name, price, currency, and renewal day. Or paste renewal emails into AI Invoice to fill in several at once.
  3. Turn on renewal notifications in Settings so you're reminded before each one charges.
  4. Export a JSON backup from Settings. It's your copy of the data, and how you move it to another device.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to Rocket Money?

Yes. Recura is a free subscription tracker with no paid tier and no account. It tracks what you pay, when each renewal is due, and your monthly and yearly totals. It does not negotiate bills or connect to your bank.

Does Rocket Money work outside the United States?

No. Rocket Money's help center says it is only available to users located in the United States with U.S.-based banks. Recura works in any country because it never connects to a bank.

Can Recura find my subscriptions automatically?

Not from your bank. You add each subscription yourself, or paste a receipt or billing email and let an AI model you connect with your own API key fill in the details for you to review.

Is my data safe without a bank connection?

Recura never sees your bank credentials or transactions. Your subscription list stays in your browser's localStorage and is never sent to Recura. The site collects anonymous usage stats, and the AI features send data only to the AI provider you choose.

Can I import my Rocket Money data into Recura?

There is no direct import from Rocket Money. Add each subscription by hand, or paste your renewal emails into AI Invoice to fill in several at once.
